3. Installation Instructions
Step 1: Pedal Identification
- Identify the left (L) and right (R) pedals by the markings on the pedal box. Alternatively you can identify the left pedal by the machined line in the axle. See below photo.
Step 2: Pedal Threading
- Left Pedal (L): Thread the left pedal counter-clockwise into the left crank arm.
- Right Pedal (R): Thread the right pedal clockwise into the right crank arm.
- Important: Ensure the pedal is fully engaged in the crank arm threads.
Step 3: Torque Specifications
- Install grease on threads. Grease helps prevent creaking as well as corrosion that can lead to pedals becoming stuck on crank arms.
- Recommended Torque: 35 Nm – 26 ft-lb
- Use a torque wrench to tighten the pedals to the specified torque. Under-tightening can lead to pedals coming loose during use. Over-tightening can damage the crank arm.
4. Cleat Installation & Adjustment
-
Cleat Compatibility: These pedals are compatible with SPD cleats.
- Fore/Aft Position: Adjust the cleat position fore/aft on the shoe to optimize pedaling efficiency and power transfer.
- Rotational Float: Adjust the cleat's rotational float to customize your pedaling feel.
- Tighten the cleat bolts to 5 Nm / 44 in-lb.
5. Safety Precautions & Warnings
- Regular Inspection: Regularly inspect pedals and cleats for wear, damage, and proper tightness.
- Proper Fit: Ensure the pedals and cleats are compatible and properly fitted to your shoes.
- Practice: Practice clipping in and out of the pedals in a safe, controlled environment before riding in traffic.
- Fall Risk: Be aware of the increased risk of falling when using clipless pedals.
